# Install Zenith

> Download the app, give it root access and its permissions, then check that everything is ready.

> [!INFO]
> Zenith needs a **rooted** Android phone. Check [Supported devices](https://pogozenith.com/docs/getting-started/supported-devices/) before you start.

## Before you start

- A rooted Android phone (Magisk) running Android 8.0 or newer, or a UgPhone cloud phone. See [Supported devices](https://pogozenith.com/docs/getting-started/supported-devices/).
- Pokémon GO installed, at a version Zenith supports.
- An internet connection and a web browser (used for Pokémon Trainer Club sign-in).

## Downloading

Download Zenith from the [Download](https://pogozenith.com/download/) page on this website. It is there for signed-in accounts with a license, a free trial included. The download opens soon; we'll announce it on [Discord](https://discord.gg/xmQbzDeGj9). Only install Zenith from that page.

## Installing

1. Open the downloaded APK on your phone.
2. If Android asks, allow your browser or file manager to install unknown apps.
3. Tap **Install**, then **Open**.

Zenith opens on the **Modes** tab. The bottom bar has four tabs: **Run**, **Modes**, **Accounts** and **Storage**. Settings are behind the gear icon at the top.

## Granting root

The first time Zenith needs root, your root manager (for example Magisk) asks whether to allow it. Tap **Grant**, and choose to remember the choice if your root manager offers it.

> [!INFO]
> Tapped **Deny** by mistake? See [Root access is required](https://pogozenith.com/docs/common-issues/root-access/).

## Allowing permissions

Open **Settings › App › Permissions**. Tap a row to open Android's page for it.

### Display over other apps

Required. It lets Zenith show the floating run overlay on top of the game.

### Notifications

Required on Android 13 and newer. Zenith shows run progress in a notification while the app is closed.

### Overlay above system UI (optional)

An optional accessibility service called **Zenith overlay host**. It only hosts the overlay window so the overlay can sit above the system bars, and it reads no screen content. Turn it on under Android's **Accessibility** settings if you want it.

## Checking the environment

Open **Settings › Support › Environment checks** and tap **Run checks**. Zenith checks root and Pokémon GO. Nothing on the phone is changed by a check.

## Adding your first account

Go to the **Accounts** tab, tap **+** and choose **Add account**. Pick **PTC** or **Google** and sign in. See [Accounts](https://pogozenith.com/docs/app/accounts/) for batch enrolment and backups.

## Is it working?

You are ready when:

- **Environment checks** shows **Ready to run modes.**
- **Permissions** shows **All allowed**.
- Your account shows **Ready** in the Accounts tab.

Now try [your first run](https://pogozenith.com/docs/getting-started/first-run/).

> [!WARNING]
> Turn off Play Store auto-update for Pokémon GO. A game update that Zenith does not support yet stops every run. See [Game version not supported](https://pogozenith.com/docs/common-issues/game-version-not-supported/).
